WAYS TO PREVENT YOUR A/C
Ken, Teena, Josiah & Noah Starr Owner of Island Comfort
An A/C constantly turning on and off can indicate a concerning problem. This type of HVAC malfunction typical- ly results from your air conditioner overworking itself. Below are three common causes of short cycling and five methods of prevention.
Short cycling occurs when your HVAC unit turns on and off with- out completing an entire cycle. An A/C cycle is complete when the unit turns off after reaching your desired temperature.

     WHAT IS SHORT CYCLING?
CAUSES OF SHORT CYCLING:
• Electrical malfunctions
This could involve your ther- mostat, circuit boards, compressor or capacitors.
2) Clean or replace condenser coils
5) Inspect evaporator coils
• Thermostat location
If there is a buildup of debris in the coils, this also restricts airflow. Keeping them clean helps prevent short cycling.
Frozen coils can be caused by poor airflow, a faulty control board or a refrigerant leak. Your HVAC tech can inspect them for you.
A thermostat placed near a win- dow, air vents or the back wall of your kitchen results in inaccurate temperature data.
3) Clean the register

• Oversized HVAC unit
Dust and dirt build up on vent registers. Use a vacuum cleaner with a crevice tool to keep them clean.
4) Check for any refrigerant leaks
Oversized units cool a space too quickly, causing the A/C to turn on and off frequently.
PREVENT SHORT CYCLING: 1) Check air filters

flow. The more contaminated the filter, the more likely your A/C will turn on and off repeatedly.
