Atlas Construction includes a number of added features that helped create a truly customized home. The ex- tra touches are as clever and useful as they are beautiful.
Spanning roughly 3,800 square feet, the demolition and rebuild project included construction of a home with six bedrooms, four bath- rooms and an upstairs ADU.
“It was the second project we’ve done for this family,” explains Rodney Kim, vice president of the award-win- ning Honolulu design/build firm. “We remodeled their first house about five years ago and they called us back to work on this project. There was a lot of custom work in- volved.”
MODERN COMFORT AND CONVENIENCE
From the moment one opens the enormous etched glass door into the lovely home, special features abound. Kim points out a gorgeous wall of reclaimed redwood in the dining area.
“That was part of the old home the homeowners wanted to keep, so we took those boards and made an accent wall for them,” he says.
In the kitchen, high-end appliances include wall-
mounted convection ovens and a pair of built-in refrig- erators with panels and fix- tures that match the cabi- nets. A pale blue porcelain tile backsplash above the sink and oven echoes the shade of the kitchen island, painted in delft blue. There’s plenty of storage, light and convenience. Between the double fridges and a handy butler’s counter, a pair of doors opens to reveal a deep and spacious hidden pantry. The feature is repeated just around the corner, where a set of built-in curio shelves with a cupboard under- neath, swing open to reveal a linen/storage closet.
HOME ENHANCEMENTS
As a full-service design/ build firm, Atlas Construc- tion has the personnel and expertise to handle all as- pects of each new project. The firm is known for helping families with specific needs and desires for their home designs, and for custom fea- tures that expand a home’s functionality and value.
“Custom features can really enhance a home — especially when they’re designed with an intimate understanding of a family’s
lifestyle,” says Kim. “That’s why we make it a point to get to know the families who trust us with their projects. It helps us understand what will make them love their homes.”
