Porcelain and ceramic tiles have never been more popular in home
design, and that’s likely be- cause designers and home- owners have found a million innovative uses for them.
“Tile isn’t just for flooring anymore,” says Jon Xie, man- ager of Rui Building Supply on Sand Island Access Road in Honolulu. “It’s so elegant on walls, and we’re seeing a lot of that, with our big
tiles especially — people are putting them on walls, from floor to ceiling.”
It’s not just for bathrooms and kitchens, either. Tiled walls can provide striking ef- fects in dining rooms, entry- ways, on lanais and porches, and even in bedrooms. In kitchens, of course, tile can be used to make spectacu- lar backsplashes, especially in combination with accent tiles.
With a huge selection of porcelain and ceramic tiles in
every shade imaginable, Rui has large quantities — more than 4,000 square feet — available in many styles and sizes.
“The biggest tiles we sell are 32-by-32 inches, perfect for large spaces that need to be covered,” adds Xie. “Large tiles are great for homeown- ers who don’t want to do lots of grout work, and they’re easier to clean.”
Oversized tiles in lighter shades can help make a small space look larger, too.
Rui’s selection of exterior tiles can help you plan a de- lightful backyard patio for summertime entertainment.
“Add a grill, table and chairs, and a big umbrella for shade, and you have everything you need for al fresco dining with family and friends,” Xie says.
As summer approaches, Rui Building Supply’s sister company, Rui Construction, is experiencing its busiest season in years.
“A lot of people are doing projects right now,” reports Xie. “When they submit their permit requests and drawings, they’re being ap- proved.”
That means it’s a great time to visit Rui’s showroom. The company offers frame- less cabinets, showers and vanities; apothecary cabi- nets; chrome and bronze towel racks, bars and rings;
and sinks and basins in por- celain and glass. There’s also a great selection of classic and contemporary LED light fixtures.
“Remember, we always have sales throughout the store, and we offer plenty of special discounts,” says Xie. “Don’t be afraid to ask! We’ll do everything we can to find a price that fits your budget.”
Visit Rui Building Supply at 155 Sand Island Access Road in Honolulu for practi- cally everything you need for your DIY renovation project. The showroom is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays- Fridays.
