Thinking about a new lawn? You couldn’t have picked a better time to shop.

For a limited time, Hawaiian Turfgrass is offering a cool $1,000 discount on installation for any of its five gorgeous varieties of turfgrass: Captiva St. Augustine, El Toro Zoysia, Seastar Seashore Paspalum, Tahoma 31 Bermuda and Zeon Zoysia.

With characteristics that outperform common older grasses, all of Hawaiian Turfgrass’ varieties are bred to be more drought-tolerant and pest-resistant, and require less mowing. Though each variety has been specially selected for Oahu’s climate, owner Sean Fong is particularly enthusiastic about Zeon Zoysia.

“When people start planning a new lawn, they think they want a classic turfgrass,” Fong says. “But once they learn about Zeon Zoysia, they forget the old varieties. Zeon Zoysia is so much nicer! It’s soft, barefoot friendly, and it definitely has that ‘wow factor.’”

The first Zoysia grass came from the Philippines and was often called Manila grass by Americans after it arrived here in 1911. Unfortunately, older varieties of Zoysia grass were unpleasant to sit or walk on, and hard to mow and maintain.

But the distinctive Zeon Zoysia variety, discovered by Texas turfgrass breeder David Doguet, is finely textured, thrives in full sunlight and is also wonderfully shade tolerant.

“A properly maintained Zeon Zoysia lawn is usually the envy of the neighborhood,” says Fong.

At you’ll find everything you need to place an order for Zeon Zoysia or one of the company’s other varieties. It’s packed with information to help you make a properly informed decision about the best grass for your lawn before you call to schedule installation — remember, there’s a $1,000 discount on complete turnkey installation through Feb. 28.

Or, if you prefer to do the job yourself, you can arrange for pickup or curbside delivery on the website.

“We’ve made turfgrass shopping simple and convenient, like buying a carpet,” Fong says. “And we try to offer a lawn for every budget.”

In early 2022, Hawaiian Turfgrass began growing its residential grass varieties in native soil. The benefits over growing on plastic are substantial, according to Fong.

“Reducing the use of plastic is crucial, because so much of it ends up in landfills or in the ocean,” he says. “Soil-grown turfgrass uses less water and fertilizer, because there’s less run-off. We now grow a stronger, healthier plant with deeper roots. There’s much less waste; it’s a high-quality product; and we aren’t contributing to global warming.”

Hawaiian Turfgrass is now offering $1,000 off installation on 400 square feet or more of Zeon Zoysia, or any of its other lovely turfgrass varieties. Call 808-371-0527 by Feb.
