Small biz handles large jobs
BY LES WONG
My name is Les Wong, and I was born and raised in Honolulu.
In June of 1983, I became a licensed general contractor and started doing small renovations and repair jobs.
Around that same time, my only daughter, Tanyce, was born, so my days and nights were very busy, but still very enjoyable. Over the next several years, Wong Construction grew to where we could handle larger additions and even new homes.
Today, I employ a crew of four skilled craftsmen, including myself, and although I still consider us to be a small business, we are able to handle larger jobs. We have completed projects around the island of Oahu, from Makaha to Portlock, and can do everything from termite repairs to building million-dollar dream homes.
We work with outstanding subcontractors — plumbers, electricians, etc. — and even draw plans and can design the home of your dreams. We also have great contacts that can provide financing, if the need arises.
On occasion, I hold an open house where the public can see our work and hear testimonies from satisfied customers. We are currently working on projects in Mililani, Pearl City, Halawa and Honolulu, which include second-story additions as well as a brand-new build.
A few years ago, I completely remodeled a large home in the Portlock, Hawaii Kai area. We added a new second story master bedroom, master bath and a huge new kitchen with vaulted ceilings. The kitchen counters were all made of granite and the bedroom floors were real oak wood, not the laminate type.
After completion, the owner was very satisfied and gave a few comments: “Aloha homeowners, I would first like to say that I consider myself a ‘tough customer.’ I think of myself as a perfectionist. I believe things should be done the right way; no shortcuts. With that said, Les Wong and his crew exceeded my expectations! “This is my first house built by Les, and we all know how frustrating it can be. You hear horror stories all the time. However, working with Les and his boys in every aspect of the job was a very satisfying learning experience! Les made it very smooth and easy for me throughout the entire job.
“With exceptional quality of workmanship that Les and his crew put into my house, I would definitely use Wong Construction again to build my next home. And also a word I don’t use lightly, I ‘trust’ Les Wong! And now I have my ‘dream home.’ Thank you, Les,” says Dean Rojas.
As you can see, after more than 30 years in the construction industry, Wong Construction still strives to do the best job possible, and always tries to satisfy every client. Thank you very much and remember, “Do it the Wong way!”
