St. Louis rebuild in progress

A new custom home designed and built by Homeworks Construction is in progress in the St. Louis neighborhood, replacing the 80-year-old home that previously occupied the 6,000-square-foot sloping lot.

Demolition of the original structure and site clearing were completed in November and December (see photo). Site leveling, foundation work and placement of retaining walls continues (see photo).

Sylvio Boucher, Home-works Construction president and chief of field operations (shown in photo), says the new home will provide the family with more than double the amount of space of the original home, which was built by the owner’s grandfather in 1942.

The structure includes the main residence on the upper level with 2,400 square feet of living area and an 800-square-foot accessory dwelling unit (ADU) below.

“The main residence opens to a 300-square-foot covered lanai with views of the ocean and both Diamond Head and Koko Head,” Boucher says. “It has two bedrooms and two baths, including the master bedroom and bathroom, and a large custom kitchen. The carport has space for two cars, and several more cars can be parked in the 70-by-20-foot driveway. The ADU, which also opens to a lanai with a Diamond Head view, has two bedrooms, a bath, a kitchen and two parking spaces.

“Due to the slope, this was a very challenging lot to work on, and involved the removal of several large trees and boulders to make way for new construction,” Boucher adds.

A design/build firm, Homeworks Construction has completed more than 1,000 new custom homes and remodels in neighborhoods throughout Oahu.
