Family home receives rebuild, ADU added
Rebuilding on the site of an existing family home has become a strong trend in Oahu neighborhoods. Over the past year, Homeworks Construction has been the contractor of choice for many such projects in Kahala, Manoa, Kaimuki (pictured) and Palolo. Currently, rebuilds are underway at demolition sites in Manoa and St. Louis Heights (see photo on facing pace).
Homeworks Construction president and chief administrative officer Marshall Hickox comments that residents of neighborhoods where Homeworks projects are in progress, impressed with the design as well as the speed and efficiency of the builds, often contact the office to inquire about the new home, and make an appointment for a consultation at their own property. Consequently, many neighborhoods have become a showcase of Homeworks custom homes.
“Our most recent Kaimuki rebuild is a new custom home on a 5,720-square foot lot,” says Sylvio Boucher, Homeworks president and chief of field operations. “It replaces a single-story dwelling built in 1954, which we demolished in November.
“We have designed a new two-story home that provides the family with 3,082 interior square feet plus a 576-square-foot Accessory Dwelling Unit. The architecture and interior layout are designed to maximize views of Diamond Head, Waikiki and the ocean, as well as take advantage of natural light and ventilation.”
A 300-square-foot covered lanai with a wet bar, located at the rear of the house, is accessible from the living room. A 100-square foot trellised lanai extends into the yard from the ADU. One bedroom and one full bath are located on the first floor in the ADU; upstairs are three more bedrooms and two bathrooms, including the master suite, and the family room. A custom kitchen by Homeworks’ award-winning kitchen designer Sean Bradshaw is on the ground floor. One parking space was added at the front of the house for the ADU and two for the main house. A 3-foot sidewalk will surround the property, which retains the original backyard garden. The home is expected to be ready for occupancy in April.
Established over two decades ago, Homeworks Construction has completed more than a thousand new custom homes and remodels throughout Oahu.
Homeworks has been chosen as one of Hawaii’s “Best Construction Companies” in Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s “Hawaii’s Best” awards program for three consecutive years and was named “Builder of the Year” by the Building Industry Association. The National Association of Home Builders designated the company a “Built Green Professional” and “Aging in Place Specialist.” The Homeworks Construction conference room, offices, and showroom are in the Homeworks building at 2111 S.
