GREAT AMERICAN SUCCESS STORY

Twenty-five years ago, Xiao Rui “Ray” Xie began his construction career in Singapore, starting out as an apprentice and gradually moving up to foreman. When he decided to immigrate to the United States in pursuit of a new way of life for himself and his family, Xie began writing his own great American success story.

In his earliest days on Oahu, Xie worked for small local builders as a laborer, moving up the ladder until he’d proved himself at his trade. Eventually, he obtained a general contracting license, becoming known in the community for the quality of the homes he built.

Within a few years, it only seemed logical to launch a building supply company, to offer the kind of quality materials he knew his clients wanted at competitive prices. The two arms of the enterprise complement each other perfectly, according to Jon Xie, manager of Rui Building Supply and Ray’s son.

“We’re basically a one-stop shop,” Jon explains. “Anything you want to do, we can help you. If you’re doing a renovation and need supplies, or if you shop for materials and find that you need help with your project, we can assist you. We’re very flexible, whether your project is big or small. And one of our main specialties is custom work.”

MAKING A HOUSE FEEL LIKE HOME

“Usually we’re able to complete houses within six months of breaking ground,” Jon says with pride. “Everyone works fast, and often we work weekends as well.”
