The holidays are behind us, a new year is here, and it’s time to get started with that remodeling or building project on your 2018 agenda to ensure completion before the holidays roll around again.

“We already have started signing contracts for new projects scheduled for completion before the end of the year,” said Homeworks Construction president Jim Byxbee. “The recent BIA (Building Industry Association of Hawaii) Home Building & Remodeling Show turnout and the energy we experienced confirmed that a lot of serious people are out there ready to upgrade their lifestyle with a new or remodeled home.”

Homeworks Construction, a BIA Remodeler of the Year and winner of a Honolulu Star-Advertiser “Hawaii’s Best” award, has completed nearly 1,000 homebuilding and remodeling projects on Oahu since the company was founded by Byxbee two decades ago. Many of these projects are award winners and can be viewed on the company’s website at homeworkshawaii.com.

“The first big step toward a successful project, that is, one completed on schedule and on budget, is to meet with a member of our design/ build team at our office or at the home or jobsite,” Byxbee said. “If the project involves a tear-down, we can complete demolition and site clearing in about a week, depending on the location and condition of the property. Then we can start foundation work and framing, and continue collaborating on interior and exterior details … as our slogan states, with Homeworks, ‘all design and construction services are under one roof.’ If the remodeling project is extensive, requiring structural alterations, it can be as time consuming as a brand new custom home. Also, ordering materials from out-of-state, which is usually necessary for kitchens and baths, can cause delays. So, the message is ‘get started now.’ Just call our office at 955-2777 and make an appointment for a preliminary, no obligation consultation, then we can move on to developing a preliminary plan and budget.”

Byxbee added that the Homeworks Build New Or ReDo seminars continue weekly through 2018 at the Homeworks office and showroom at 2111 S. Beretania St. The free seminars, which provide an opportunity for one-on-one meetings with the speakers after the formal presentations, are usually held from 6 to 8 p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month. This month’s seminars on Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) are an exception, and will be held on the second Tuesday, Feb. 9, with a repeat on Wednesday, Feb. 10. Reservations are requested.
