Here’s a news flash: A solar-powered home can still be yours. In fact, there are more ways than ever to hone in the sun’s energy to your favor in lowering your energy bills. With Alternate Energy Inc. (AEI), homeowners can cut their utility bills by almost half simply by installing a solar water heater. A photovoltaic (PV) system with Hawaiian Electric Co.’s (HECO) Grid Supply is still an option in many areas. And now, customers can even harness the power of the sun and control their own energy future or self supply with onsite, residential energy storage.

“Our HESS (Home Energy Storage Solution) is an intelligent, onsite energy storage system that captures solar power, stores it and delivers it whenever you need it — at night, on cloudy days and even in the event of a power outage,” said AEI director of sales and marketing, Ross Kutsunai. “‘Self Supply’ means that what your system generates, you store onsite and use yourself. You don’t send your power to the grid, and you’re not reliant on the grid for your power. That’s especially important during hurricane season.”

AEI is one of the first Tesla Energy Authorized Resellers in Hawaii, and HESS combines Tesla Powerwall lithium-ion batteries, power electronics and multiple energy inputs in an UL-certified (Underwriters Laboratories — a trusted, international product safety testing and certification organization) appliance. HESS can be integrated with a new Mitsubishi Electric PV system from AEI or with the homeowner’s existing PV system.

“Battery storage is no longer just the future of energy efficient homes — it’s here now and it means solar can be available to virtually anyone. We’re proud to offer this state of the art product, as well as PV systems and of course the tried-and-true solar water heater technology,” said Kutsunai.
