Harnessing renewable energy

In the beginning, Revolu-Sun’s mission was clear: deliver top-notch products, installation methods and customer service in Hawaii’s relatively new solar industry. Capitalizing on years of solar and construction experience, RevoluSun’s founders delivered a process that was easy for homeowners to install PV and gain energy independence.

RevoluSun was born in 2009, a time when just a handful of companies were offering solar. Many homeowners were confused about the technology and had a hard time finding a solar company that could easily explain the process. RevoluSun held hundreds of free solar seminars throughout the community, presented to hundreds of companies in the building industry, and held the first of more than 1,000 “Solar Open House” events throughout the state.

A few hundred PV installations in 2009 grew to thousands by 2010. By 2013, RevoluSun had empowered more than 4,000 Hawaii households with solar, and more than 200 companies were trying to join the solar boom. As Hawaii’s solar industry grew, RevoluSun emerged the leader, becoming the largest single location residential solar company in the U.S.

When confronted with significant challenges in grid saturation and regulation, RevoluSun again put on its forward-thinking cap and curated a collection of energy efficiency options for homeowners. With 65 MW of solar systems built and 6,500 customers saving more than $20 million in utility expenses annually, RevoluSun evolved into RevoluSun Smart Home: a full-service provider of energy efficient home technology, which includes PV hot water, cooling, natural lighting, EV car charging, solar storage and more.

“We installed solar with RevoluSun in 2014 and have been so happy with the results,” said customer S. Keenan, who lives in Niu Valley. “Not having an electric bill has freed us up to pursue more energy efficiency improvements for our home … It’s nice to be able to trust RevoluSun to not just provide a quality service, but also know that they will be continually searching for ways for us to harness renewable energy and make smart choices about the world we are leaving to our kids.”

In honor of its seventh birthday, RevoluSun Smart Home is expanding business hours to the weekend, and is now open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The company’s Innovation Center showroom, located at 210 Ward Ave., is a place for the public to come see, touch and learn more about the many ways your home can harness renewable energy.
