In today’s media-filled world, information is easily accessible on just about any topic. From dozens of home magazines on newsstands to thousands of websites, homeowners can research and explore new ideas about their renovation and new home projects from the comforts of their own homes prior to starting. However, since home construction projects often are costly, complicated and sometimes lengthy, it is important to get all the facts about this intricate process from the professionals before you start.

With 25 years of home building experience in Hawaii, Graham Builders was the first company in its industry to offer free monthly building seminars to homeowners. To date, more than 5,000 of Hawaii’s homeowners have attended Graham Builders’ “Building Your Home for Life” seminar.

“During the early years of our business, we met with many homeowners who were misinformed about what a home construction project entailed, which is why we decided to launch the seminar,” said president of Graham Builders Evan Fujimoto. “The ultimate goal of the seminar is to help homeowners understand everything there is to know, whether it is a new build, remodel or renovation, before they start their home construction project. We want attendees to leave the seminar feeling empowered with knowledge so that they are confident in determining their family’s best course of action.”

Held at the Honolulu Country Club, the two-hour seminar educates homeowners with detailed information and best steps for a successful home construction project. Topics include: how and where to start; setting a realistic budget; selecting a contractor ideal for you and your project; bonding your project; designing within your budget; and building a “home for life.”

With Hawaii’s unique culture and climate, Graham Builders’ seminar also covers topics that are important to local families such as multigenerational homes, universal and aging-in-place design and sustainable building. A trailblazer leading the efforts to make multigenerational homes more common in Hawaii, Graham Builders’ seminar provides information on designing to make your home friendly and safe for all ages, designing for personal space, blended versus segregated living and pooling resources to help the bottom line.

“We had no idea what to expect and appreciated the depth of knowledge each presenter had,” said Christin Sumida of Aiea. “My husband and I took pages of notes and jotted down a bunch of questions to ask as the wheels began turning about our own project.”

If you are considering a home construction project and are ready to take the initial step of learning more about how to get started, attend Graham Builders’ upcoming seminar on Saturday, May 21 at 9 a.m. at the Honolulu Country Club. The seminar is free, but reservations are required. Visit grahambuilders.com or call 593-2808 to register.
