HR-031316-Tropical-Plumbing-7Kuakini Health System has added three walk-in bathtubs from Tropical Plumbing & Bath to its Kuakini Home Residential Care facility for men and women.

“We were delighted to have an opportunity to work with Kuakini on this installation,” said Tropical Plumbing & Bath President Charlie Beeck. “We were able to fi ll their needs in a timely manner, and they were very pleased with the service and quality of the product.

“The fact that a highly regarded medical and care facility made the decision to add these fi xtures for the safety and convenience of their residents demonstrates the increasing acceptance of walk-in tubs … a product we pioneered in Hawaii more than 10 years ago.”

Beeck made a donation of $500 to the Kuakini Foundation, a non-profi t subsidiary of Kuakini Health System located on the 10-acre Nuuanu/Liliha campus. The check presentation took place in the Hale Pulama Mau building, which houses Kuakini Geriatric Care Inc. programs and services. All monies received by Kuakini Foundation benefi t Kuakini patients and residents, and the community.

The tubs were installed in bathing areas for men and women in Kuakini Home, an adult residential care facility offering 24-hour supervision, meals, laundry service, and general health monitoring for the elderly in a comfortable, home-like protective environment.

The tubs, from a Chicago-based manufacturer, feature 80-second, dual-drain technology, stainless steel frame, hydrotherapy jets, air massage, inline water heater to maintain temperature throughout the tub as the water circulates, hand-held shower, grab bars and other accessories.

A wide variety of models is available from Tropical, which, as a general contractor, also installs the fixtures and provides the necessary plumbing for new construction and remodeling for single-family homes, townhomes and apartments.

Designing and remodeling bathrooms for “aging-in-place” and multigenerational living is a specialty of Tropical Plumbing & Bath, Hawaii’s leading resource for sales and installation of walk-in tubs and showers. When limited mobility of household members is a consideration, homeowners often specify walk-in bathtubs and showers either to replace or augment existing bathing facilities. The walk-in bathtub’s hydrotherapy features also can be effective in relieving stress and muscle fatigue caused by work or athletic pursuits.

According to Beeck, who was recognized as a Building Industry Association Remodeler of the Year, “Upgrading the bathroom to a private oasis in the home for relaxation and rejuvenation is a growing trend. Walk-in bathtubs and showers are part of this trend, with people living longer and, generally, healthier lives but also preparing for the future and possible lessened mobility.”
