You may have heard of ductless cooling systems, and you’ve probably seen the small, indoor devices installed high on walls. But what do you really know about these systems? Alternate Energy Inc. (AEI), a Diamond Contractor for Mitsubishi Electric, has the answers to your questions.

  • • The basics of ductless cooling. Traditional central A/C systems force cooled air through ducts, whereas ductless systems deliver air directly into different zones. Sometimes referred to as split systems, ductless cooling offers a cost-effective way to replace inefficient window units. Comprised of a small outdoor unit and one or more indoor units, they require nothing more than mounting capabilities and access to electricity.
  • • Saving money. One of the biggest reasons to switch to ductless cooling is overall cost savings. When a home’s temperature depends upon an inefficient system, monthly bills can quickly climb. Ductless systems operate on less power, are smaller than traditional forced air systems and built according to Energy Star guidelines. Also, because the temperature controlled air is delivered directly into a room, there is no loss in efficiency. Multisplit systems also allow homeowners to create “zones” in their home, which means they no longer have to cool rooms that aren’t occupied.
  • • Improve indoor air quality. Because the quality of indoor air can be lower than the quality of outdoor air, traditional A/C systems’ air ducts must be professionally cleaned on a regular basis. Even after cleaning, dust, bacteria, pollen and allergens remain. Ductless systems offer multi-stage filtration that can drastically reduce these.

AEI is proud to be one of Hawaii’s few renewable energy contractors technically trained to sell and install high quality Mitsubishi Electric products, which now come with an industry leading 12-year parts and 12- year compressor warranty. In 2014, AEI’s fully licensed HVAC journeymen and electricians installed more residential split-level A/C systems than any other energy contractor in the state. You can get a jump on the summer heat with AEI’s limited-time “Cool Now Pay Later” offer of $0 down for six months. To learn more, call 842-5853 or visit alternateenergyhawaii.com
