“The first step is consultation with the client to determine the scope of work, whether a new build, renovation, addition or kitchen and bath,” Byxbee said. “We assign a project coordinator who remains in close touch with both our in-house team of designers and builders and the client. They meet with the client at the job site and arrange conferences at our offices … as often as necessary and at times that are convenient for the client. Sometimes the client brings along photos or sketches of the project, or even preliminary plans. We also review photos and architectural drawings from the Homeworks portfolio of completed projects.

“Chances are, the client will find a match for what they have in mind … whether a home built on a budget or a large luxury residence. Over 20 years of building in Hawaii, we’ve completed nearly 1,000 custom homes and remodels. If the client has not chosen a lender, we can supply names of financial institutions who have worked with us and our clients in the past. They recognize Homeworks as a reliable general contractor who completes projects on schedule and on budget, which can be advantageous to the borrower.”
Byxbee points out that finalizing the contract can involve many meetings and alterations until every detail is covered and all parties are satisfied with the terms, adding that there can be changes along the way. For example, if certain materials or fixtures turn out to exceed the established budget, substitutions can be made.
