For some, the idea of constructing a home can seem intimidating. From deciding on a floor plan to selecting finishes, it all starts with choosing the right company to do the job. “Given the scope of work and financial support home construction requires, it is absolutely essential to do your due diligence and choose people you trust,” said Xiao “Rui” Xie, owner of RUI Building Supply.

For more than 10 years, RUI Building Supply has successfully constructed hundreds of homes across the island. Equipped with a full-spectrum contracting license, which includes electrical and plumbing work, the company understands the market well, and can empathize with a customer’s struggle to find the right team of people. “Often-times, a good place to start is to compile a list of companies and visit their respective showrooms, because they allow the client to get a sense of that company’s aesthetics,” advised Rui. “However, customers would also do well to inquire about the company’s warehouse and readily available materials.”

Whereas many construction groups outsource materials to a separate location — with a limited inventory that can take months to replenish, RUI Building Supply’s warehouse is located directly behind the showroom. “Our 18,000-square-foot warehouse gives us direct access to thousands of tons of materials and fixtures,” said Rui. “Shipments come straight to us, so more likely than not, we have everything you need for a job already in the store.”

By eliminating the need to wait long periods of time for materials to come in, construction work can commence soon after the initial consultation. “We realize that time is money, so it is crucial for us to not waste time with unnecessary holdups,” said Rui. “At the same time, ensuring high-quality work is of utmost importance.”

Prospective clients are welcome to visit the company’s showroom located on Sand Island Access Road. Open to anyone during business hours, the space features more than a dozen models including cabinets, shower installations and custom counter-tops for the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom.

“We like to provide an interactive customer experience to go over the various styles and materials we offer,” said Rui. “Whether looking to build a house from the ground up, or do something simpler like remodel a kitchen counter, clients are able to see and touch the different finishes, and receive the essential information to make an informed decision.”
