Alternate Energy has been Hawaii’s locally owned, family-operated solar energy provider since 1993. It is a full-service, fully licensed company with an eye toward slow, sustainable growth. Today, the company is honored to be among the top-three residential PV providers in the state.

What else sets Alternate Energy apart?

“We care about Hawaii,” said company owner and founder Bruce Ekimura. “We’ve been around a long time, and we’ll be here for many decades to come. We don’t need to be the biggest, but we do aim to be the best at what we do, one great job at a time.” Bruce said his customers know they can count on the highest-quality product, solid warranties, expert installation and exceptional service from the entire AEI team.

Meet a few of the pros from the AEI ohana:

One busy guy

Born and raised on Oahu, Jeff Lum attended St. Louis High, Kaiser High, KCC and UH Manoa — that’s a whole lot of teams to root for. Plus he has six great kids (just one beautiful wife, though). His other love is tennis. “Love is nothing in tennis, but in life, it’s everything.”

Surf’s up!

Craig Kawamura is an Aiea High graduate who knows his way around a surfboard! Craig studied under master shaper Ben Aipa, and still has his own shaping company, CK Surfboards (which is more of a hobby now that he’s directing the sales team at AEI). He said his UH Manoa degree in Zoology comes in handy, as he’s “working with a bunch of monkeys.”

A goal-oriented father

Chad Ihara is another Aiea High graduate. He’s the father of two girls and loves to spend time with them coaching their HYSA soccer team, Hawaii Rush. He’s also an avid fisherman, always in search of a big catch on his boat, Watabozu (a local twist on the Japanese word for rascal). His motto: The worst day fishing is better than the best day working … unless you sell solar for AEI — then it’s a tough call.

Alternate Energy Inc. is one of Hawaii’s oldest solar energy companies specializing in the design and installation of photo-voltaic systems and solar water heating. It has been a HECO Approved Contractor (Hawaii Energy Efficiency Program) since 1996 and is Hawaii’s only Mitsubishi Elite Dealer.
