When Honolulu’s respected real estate professionals decide to go solar for their own homes, who do they choose?

In their daily work, real estate power couple Barry and Corinda Wong have seen countless solar installations all over the island. Barry owns Building Specs Hawaii, a home inspection firm, and Corinda is a Realtor for Prudential Locations. They operate their businesses out of two offices located in their Kailua home.

When it came time to invest in a PV system, they chose Alternate Energy.

“With the business I’m in, I talk to a lot of clients and see a lot of installations,” Barry said. “I really liked the Mitsubishi panels Alternate Energy offers, so that made our decision easy. I’m familiar with Mitsubishi’s quality on so many other products like cars and air conditioners. I know the brand.”

Barry is also a general contractor. He built the family home from the foundation all the way up to its beautiful Monier tile roof, and he was concerned about cracking tiles. “I’ve seen problems with cracking on other job sites. But after I saw the special Unirac bracketing system Alternate Energy uses, with a unique design that elevates the arrays off the roof and puts no weight on the tiles, I felt comfortable with the installation.” Mitsubishi’s excellent warranty, and the strong, weather-proof product helped too.

After consulting with Alternate Energy solar pro Ari Matsumura, the Wongs opted for a 9.44 kilowatt premium Mitsubishi MLU255HC system with SMA Sunny Boy inverters. Barry said, “The staff at Alternate Energy and the installers were all very professional, they explained every detail. I especially liked the fact that the installers are employees of the company — Alternate Energy does not outsource to subcontractors. They worked with me on placement of panels and inverters, they were flexible and listened to my concerns.” Barry also cited Alternate Energy’s 20 years of service as a solar contractor on Oahu, and their generous 10 year parts and labor warranty.

The installation went like clockwork. The system went live in September, and the Wongs’ HECO bill went from $450 per month to $16.
