HAWAII RENOVATION 5
Unique architectural design is comple- mented by quality
finishes in this new home designed and built by Home- works Construction on the site of the owner’s previous home in Wailupe Circle. The rebuild more than doubles the size of the previous home occupied by the three- generation family.
The original home was constructed in 1951 in the East Oahu neighborhood, developed on a peninsula created in 1948 over the re- mains of a Hawaiian fishpond. The approximately 120-home community, accessed from
Kalanianaole Highway, con- tinues to be one of Oahu’s most desirable neighbor- hoods with lots ranging from 11,000 to 18,000 square feet. Wailupe homes, many in vari- ous stages of renovation or already rebuilt, have recently sold at price points upward of $2 million.
The home that previously occupied the 12,003-square- foot lot was a single-story 2,500-square-foot structure. A swimming pool, added to the property in 1955, was retained and has been re- surfaced.
Balance, simplicity and functionality characterize the
architectural style of the new residence. White board and batten siding is complement- ed by a green standing seam metal roof. Adjacent to the main entrance at the front of the house is a concrete veranda with a custom-de- signed railing that provides a unique decorative feature. Poured concrete driveways and walkways were designed to incorporate space for landscaping.
The new family residence consists of a main house of 4,146 square feet and an ac- cessory dwelling unit (ADU) with 1,024 square feet, plus a two-car garage for the main house and a one-car garage for the ADU.
The two-story home in- cludes five bedrooms — three on the second floor, the mas- ter on the first floor and one in the ADU — four full baths and one half-bath.
“The ground floor was de- signed with an open floor plan with a family room and kitchen overlooking the swim- ming pool area,” says Sylvio Boucher, Homeworks presi- dent and chief of field opera- tions. “Roofed outdoor lanais that open to the pool deck provide additional space for dining and entertaining. Both the main residence and the ADU have custom kitchens with state-of-the-art appli- ances and convenient work and storage areas.
“Our design team and builders worked closely with the owner to produce a spacious, functional mul- tigenerational home. The interior layout has ample space for cross ventilation and every room has its own natural lighting. Our mutual goal was to provide conve- nience and comfort for ev- ery family member.”
Established over two de- cades ago as a design-build firm, Homeworks provides “all design and construction services under one roof” — the company slogan — and has completed more than 1,000 new custom homes and remodels on Oahu over the years. Homeworks was named one of Hawaii’s best construction companies in Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s “Hawaii’s Best” awards pro- gram and “Builder of the
