St. Louis Heights rebuild features an ADU
Nearly 80 years af- ter the original home was built on a
6,000-square-foot lot in St. Louis Heights by the own- er’s grandfather, the family will be moving into a new custom home twice the size of its predecessor and de- signed for multigenerational living. An accessory dwelling unit augments interior space in the new two-story home designed and built by Home- works Construction.
According to Sylvio Boucher, Homeworks Con- struction president and chief of field operations,
the company’s design/ build team was in close touch with the owners on all aspects of the project, including architectural de- sign, interior layout and the accessory dwelling unit (ADU). All buildable proper- ty was utilized to maximize the size of the home and provide space for a large, three-generation family.
The structure includes the main residence on the upper level with two bedrooms, two baths, a large custom kitchen and 2,400 square feet of living area. It opens to a 300-square-foot cov-
ered lanai with views of the ocean and both Diamond Head and Koko Head. The 800-square-foot accessory dwelling unit at ground level below has two bedrooms, a bath and a custom kitchen; it also opens to a lanai with a Diamond Head view. The carport has space for two cars, and several more cars can be parked in the 70-by 20-foot driveway. The acces- sory dwelling unit has two parking spaces.
“Multigenerational homes have been a specialty of Homeworks for decades but our recent collection is unique as all are custom, on- site rebuilds with attached accessory dwelling units,” Boucher says. “We’ve built or are in the process of build- ing a half-dozen of these homes in as many years.
The ADU must be compat- ible with the architectural style of the main residence as well as with the lifestyle of the residents, providing convenience as well as pri- vacy for all members of the household.”
