During a recent roof- ing estimate, Bernard Balais, president and
responsible managing em- ployee of West Oahu Roofing Inc. was asked a very impor- tant question from a potential customer.
The potential customer asked, “I have received sev- eral roofing estimates for my roof from different com- panies. Why are the roofing prices very different from each company?”
Balais responds, “There are many reasons roofing prices can vary, but we will discuss three main reasons for price differences.”
1. MATERIALS
Each roofing company has their preferred roofing manu- facturer. Not all roofing mate- rial quality and durability is the same. Along with that, not all material pricing is the same. It is important when comparing roofing estimates to compare all aspects of materials when going over estimates.
2. WORKERS’ COMPENSATION INSURANCE AND GENERAL LIABILITY INSURANCE
All licensed and profession- al roofing companies must have workers’ compensation insurance and general liability insurance. Having these insur- ances increases pricing, but at the same time it ensures that if there is any type of accident atajobsite—thereisnoli- ability put on the homeowner after the fact.
