It started with a few canoe races, a couple of beers af- ter those races and a desire
by two guys to one day start their own business. Thirty years later, Pacific American Lumber Inc. is celebrating a milestone birthday as a well- established distributor of finish products for the con- struction industry in Hawaii.
Established in 1992, PAL had two employees (the owners), a worn-down Mit- subishi pickup truck for de- liveries and 5,000 square feet of warehouse space. The product line consist- ed of plywood, hardwood
flooring and some lumber products representing three manufacturers.
Fast-forward to 2022, and PAL now has 14 employees and a 40,000-square-foot warehouse that includes a beautiful showroom. The company currently repre- sents over 20 high-quality manufacturers from around the world. The Mitsubishi didn’t make it, but PAL still does deliveries daily.
The company’s slogan, “Locally Committed, Glob- ally Connected” is a perfect fit at this point. No project in Hawaii is too small or too
big for PAL to handle. The company’s commitment to taking care of the three- generation household that is looking to upgrade their floors and countertops in their kitchen receives the same attention as the large developer looking for fin- ishes for its next luxury condominium in Kakaako. Clients big and small — al- though no home renova- tion project is ever actually small — and any customer in between, will be presented with cutting edge products from around the world that are suited to their taste and budget. Whether it is state- of-the art flooring, trendset- ting countertop materials, or decking and siding prod- ucts, you can find them all under one roof and in stock at PAL.
It’s nice to have a big warehouse full of quality
