Choosing a solar panel cleaner
Looking for the right so- lar panel cleaner can be a daunting task. With
the solar panel cleaning in- dustry growing rapidly, more and more companies are try- ing to capitalize on the op- portunity.
Unfortunately, many peo- ple are not doing the proper research before cleaning their solar panels and can end up doing damage to the system.
Here are the questions to ask when looking for a solar panel cleaner.
DO YOU USE ANY CHEMICALS?
Most manufacturers rec- ommend not to use any harsh chemicals while clean- ing your panels. The chemi- cals can remove the ARC coating from your panels, and it’s costly to replace and can void your warranty.
DO YOU USE
A PRESSURE WASHER?
Most manufacturers rec- ommend not to use any high-pressure cleaning sys- tems. Using pressure that’s too high can damage or break the glass that pro- tects your solar panels. You shouldn’t need more than regular tap pressure to clean most systems.
DO YOU WALK ON THE PANELS?
All systems can be cleaned without walking on the solar panels. Walking on the panels can cause a crack in the glass or cause micro- fractures, which can reduce your system productivity.
WHAT TYPE OF BRUSH WOULD YOU USE?
Anyone cleaning solar panels should have the proper equipment. They should be using a specially designed solar panel water- fed brush with the right bris- tles, or a rotary solar panel cleaning brush. Brushes that are too soft (car wash brush) or aggressive (deck brush) will either not clean the pan- els properly or damage the panels.
