HAWAII RENOVATION 5
Anew luxury home in the historic Diamond Head neighborhood
has been completed by Homeworks Construction. It replaces the 50-year- old, single-level structure that previously occupied the 5,000-square-foot site at the eastern end of Kapi- olani Park.
The Homeworks Con- struction design team worked closely with the owner to create a new, cus- tom home to suit the needs of the family and also take better advantage of the choice location with views of Diamond Head and the park.
According to Homeworks president and chief admin- istrative officer Marshall Hickox, the residence was designed to maximize us-

and a half-bath, a study, spacious kitchen, and great room that opens with pock- eting doors to the large cov- ered lanai and swimming pool (as seen on the cover photo). The lanai includes an outdoor barbecue, craft room, and half-bath.
“The owner chose Home- works as their contractor because they were familiar with our work from previous projects that required cre- ative design and the ability to build in difficult spaces. Although there was not much room to build outward and the front of the property is close to the road, we were able to come up with layout solutions that enabled us to make better use of available space and expand outward and upward, while observ- ing building codes,” Hickox
says.
“Privacy was enhanced
through orientation of the structure and landscaping, which included new gar- dens around the swimming pool, planting trees in the front and back yards, and enclosing the front yard with a rock wall, fencing, and a security gate.
“Our goal is always to meet and exceed the client’s expectations in both qual- ity of work and execution of their vision — a seamless in- door-outdoor oasis and the craftsman style architecture synonymous with the neigh- borhood,” Hickox adds.
Established over two de- cades ago as a design-build firm, Homeworks provides “all design and construction services under one roof,” the company slogan, and has completed approximately 1,000 new custom homes and remodels throughout Oahu.
Homeworks Construction has been chosen as one of Hawaii’s “Best Construction Companies” in the annual Honolulu Star-Advertiser “Hawaii’s Best” awards pro- gram for three consecu- tive years and was named “Builder of the Year” by the Building Industry Associa- tion. The National Associa- tion of Home Builders has designated the company a “Built Green Professional” and “Aging in Place Spe- cialist.”
The Homeworks Con- struction conference room, offices and showroom are located in the Homeworks Building at 2111 S. Beretania St. Free parking is available in the parking lot to the rear of the building.
