One of the most exciting times for homeowners is when they get to build their dream home or add the new addition they always wanted. In the design phase, windows are top of the list of important decisions to make. When choosing window types, consider their role of bringing in natural light, fresh air and protecting your family from the wind, rain and outside noise. A popular choice for generations has been to use old-style jalousie windows for their natural ventilation benefits. However, in the case of old-style jalousies, the bad outweighs the good when it comes to window performance.
We met with Breezway at their Halawa factory to discuss window design in new construction. Their strongest recommendation is to go with high performance louvers that meet building codes and provide full, natural ventilation. With more than 60 years of louver design and manufacturing experience worldwide and 25-plus years supplying product to Hawaii, Breezway took these concerns to heart and designed louver window systems specifically to suit the needs and challenges of Hawaii’s homes and condos. With safety, security and performance in mind, these systems are locally manufactured at their Halawa factory in a variety of configurations, colors, blade, handle, screen and security options.
While Breezway louvers may look similar to jalousie windows and share the same benefits when open, they share none of the drawbacks when closed. Louver windows seal tight against wind, water and noise while also allowing you to run air conditioning and not lose the cold air. All hardware is concealed and made from non-corrosive materials while meeting and exceeding new building and energy code requirements.
Recently Breezway introduced a new louver system, the Stronghold, which incorporates a pinning system that goes through the blades and secures them from the interior of the home. The pinning system provides enhanced security and safety whether the window is open or closed. Breezway has also fired up the first glass tempering oven on Oahu and temper their blades for increased performance and security. In fact, tempered glass is up to five times stronger than regular float glass and should it break, it will do so in little pieces opposed to large, dangerous and hazardous shards.
