For many years, the tax incentives that gave most homeowners and corporations the ability to take advantage of solar power were not favorable for non-profit organizations. “We made it one of our core objectives to change that,” said Joseph Saturnia, president of Island Pacific Energy.

Founded in 2007, Island Pacific Energy was the first company in Hawaii to enable a non-profit organization to utilize solar power with the installation of a photovoltaic (PV) system at Punahou School. “Since then, we have been fortunate to have a number of successes,” said Saturnia, whose list of satisfied clients include Hawaiian Electric, Chaminade University and Young Brothers.

To facilitate the complex financial transactions that come with assisting non-profits, Island Pacific Energy relies on the knowledge and liaisons gained from years of experience in Hawaii. “It has become an area of expertise we are very comfortable with due to our buying power and operational efficiency,” said Saturnia. “We are very proud of the fact that we have enabled certain institutions to acquire renewable energy who otherwise would not have been able to.”

In addition to working with non-profits, Island Pacific Energy also services customers on both the residential and commercial spectrum. The company purchases its PV panels from a variety of different manufacturers and is not contractually obligated with any one company. “We want to be able to offer our customers the best value in terms of products available,” said Saturnia. “Not every house has the same energy needs, so we tailor our services and products accordingly to save the client the most money.”

The installation process is simple. To start, customers can call Island Pacific Energy to schedule a free, on-site consultation in which a sales consultant will survey the home as well as analyze the electrical bill. Within 30 minutes, the homeowner can expect to receive a proposal that shows how much energy a PV system will generate, how much the home can expect to save and the different financing options available.

From the time a client agrees to a proposal, the process takes approximately three weeks to engineer and install the system. In addition, after one year, all homes receive a free inspection and cleaning.
