In November, the capacity limit set by the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission to connect a rooftop photovoltaic (PV) system under the Customer Grid Supply (CGS) program was reached. CGS applications have been processed by Hawaiian Electric Co. (HECO) in the order that they were received since the program opened in October 2015. CGS allowed homeowners to receive reduced solar credits for the excess electricity they generate with their PV system and send it back to the grid.
You may have applied or submitted an application for a PV system under the CGS program. However, the complete application process, reviews and lengthy wait may have discouraged some from further pursuing getting their system installed. Have you already gone through the application process and received your approval for your PV interconnection, but then were unable to contact the contractor who you originally submitted your application to, or they are no longer in business? Or, have you been shopping around for a system and still haven’t made up your mind?
If you can relate to any of the above, why not get a free no-pressure, no-obligation quote from the experts at Hawaii Energy Connection (HEC). There are quite a few choices out there on system types, so let the company help you on what would be ideal for your home and needs.
Knowing the right PV system size for your home should be a major concern. With all the changes to solar interconnection, it is more important than ever. Purchasing an oversized system for your home can cost you thousands of dollars for extra panels and battery storage capacity. Taking into consideration your unique situation, tax credit appetite, roof space, budget and electricity usage, HEC uses its exclusive Right-Size™ tool to design a customized solution with “good, better and best” options that balance the cost of the system and the amount of savings you’ll enjoy. Remember, the still-available state and federal tax credits (up to 65 percent) and fi nancing options make it easy to own, too.
HEC, the local company known as “KumuKit™,” has installed more than 8,000 residential and commercial PV systems, and surpassed big mainland companies in battery storage and energy management technology with its KumuKit Power-blocks™. The company has also installed more than a hundred KumuKit™ systems with battery storage under the CGS and Customer Self Supply (CSS) programs here in the state and are designed to be simple, monitored and controlled by you with its innovative, sophisticated proprietary Energy Management Controller (EMC), unlike any other energy management system in the market today. It is notable that HEC has been actively involved in the forefront of the interconnection programs and policies, and is very knowledgeable and trained in the various processes.
