Ready to build a new home, or remodel your existing home? If a custom home designed from the ground up or a major remodel are on your agenda for 2016, it’s time to get started.
“Spring is a good time start new projects,” said Homeworks Construction CEO Jim Byxbee. “It’s a season of renewal, and of course interest rates are still at historic lows. Gather your ideas through magazines, TV shows, the Sunday Renovation section … check out the Homeworks website where you can review our projects, both completed and in progress … take a drive or a walk around various neighborhoods and photograph houses that appeal to you. Then make an appointment to come to our office where our Homeworks experts can acquaint you with the entire process and refine your ideas to fit your budget. For those who don’t already have a lender, we can refer them to financial institutions we have worked with over the years who are familiar with us and know our qualifications.”
Once the scope of work and budget has been established, Homeworks draws up an agreement and a set of plans to be submitted to the building department. Once the plans are approved, construction can begin.
“If the job is a new house on the site of an existing house, we start with demolition, which we handle ourselves. As a design-build firm, all phases of the project, whether a new build or major remodel, are covered in our agreement and included in the quoted price … in fact, all fees are included.
“Once the job is underway, the homeowner is usually concerned with selecting finishes — paint colors, flooring, cabinets, light fixtures and appliances. We have a very knowledgeable selections specialist on our staff who works with the clients. Although they may already have information on their options from research on the internet. But it’s still valuable to have someone available to suggest alternatives when the wish list doesn’t match up with the budget.”
Byxbee added that Homeworks offers clients the opportunity to join the design-build team for weekly meetings at the office or job site. “Good communication is important. When the client is able to monitor the project at each phase, we can ensure that the home is meeting their expectations and moving toward a successful, on-time completion.”
A free “Build New or Re-Do” seminar will be held at the Homeworks Showroom on Tuesday, May 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. Topics will be multigenerational homes and Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU). Homeworks project coordinator Kim Green, an accredited aging-in-place specialist and certified green professional, will host. For reservations, call 955-2777.
