Julie Yu was excited to show that the QuietCool whole house fan system she had purchased from Island Cooling years ago for her Mililani home was still cooling her home very well.
“It’s like a fresh breeze,” she says. “I turn it on when I’m at home to bring in cooler air and it draws the heat out of the house. Plus, it works with open windows so I can keep an ear out for the kids.”
Yu estimates that she has saved more than $5,000 on her electricity bill over the years by almost exclusively using the QuietCool system instead of air conditioning.
“As my family grows, I’m able to use those savings for other things,” she says.
Island Cooling has hundreds of customers — like Yu — praising the versatility of both the company and QuietCool system.
Tracey Spacek is another.
“In November a few years ago, due to terrible humidity and high cost of (electricity) from A/C use, I reached out to Island Cooling for help,” Spacek says.
He praised the responsiveness and informative approach that founders and brothers Ivan and Al Whitworth offer.
“Ivan educated me on how whole-house fans work and helped me design and install an entire system throughout my house. I still have split system A/Cs in my home, but don’t use them anymore,” Spacek says.
“Energy savings and healthy living is more important now than ever,” Ivan says. “Folks are in favor of indoor/outdoor living and with QuietCool, the A/C becomes the backup.”
In 2023, Island Cooling got another boost when the state of Hawaii updated the energy code and recommended new homes be installed with whole-house fan systems as a way to meet Hawaii’s sustainability goals.
“For a while, home construction has been very modular and with housing prices so high, home ventilation has been an afterthought,” Al says.
“As time goes on, we’ve seen an increase in QuietCool systems being used in new and (remodeled) home construction,” he continues. “Over the years, these systems have proven their value in providing comfort and ventilation for a lot of Hawaii homeowners.”
From Hilo to Hanalei, Island Cooling has been bringing energy-efficient whole-house fans and solar fans to Hawaii residents since 2008. Call 808-672-2300 or visit islandcooling.com.
