For 15 years, local solar company RevoluSun has been a leader in the Hawaii solar industry, known not just for its best-in-class solar installations, but also for its commitment to supporting the communities they serve. Through its internal giving arm called Project Empower, it has played a crucial role in supporting more than 36 different nonprofit organizations on Oahu, with more than $800,000 in monetary donations and equipment, along with thousands of volunteer hours. Now, RevoluSun is taking Project Empower through the process of forming a standalone nonprofit dedicated to providing essential needs through solar and storage systems for residents affected by natural disasters.
Following the Lahaina wildfires, Project Empower swiftly stepped up, taking a lead role as a solar adviser for Ohana Hope Village, an 83-unit community development in Kahului, Maui, that will house up to 250 people impacted by the fires.
Sustainable solution
Ohana Hope Village stands as a beacon of recovery, offering rent and utilities-free housing for more than 250 residents displaced by the Lahaina fires. Situated on 10 acres of land, this thoughtfully designed “village” is actually a state-of-the-art, sustainable, off-grid housing solution. With dozens of organizations donating their time and services, Ohana Hope Village is swiftly coming to life.
Project Empower has been instrumental in spearheading fundraising efforts and providing solar and storage expertise for the housing development. Since September, Project Empower’s team has secured solar panels, facilitated a donation of 166 Daikin mini-split air conditioners for all housing units and secured commitments from vendors for discounted products that will be used at Ohana Hope Village.
Local workers impact
Project Empower has not only provided critical solar design services and fundraising support, but also created employment opportunities. By raising funds for solar system installations and ongoing technical opportunities, the initiative is also keeping Maui-based solar installation crews working — some of which would currently be laid off due to the economic downturn on Maui.
