Developed by turfgrass expert David Doguet of Bladerunner Farms in Poteet, Texas, Zeon Zoysia was bred from zoysiagrass selections collected around the Pacific Rim. “This variety needs little water and fertilizer,” says Fong. “It does best in full sun and thrives with five or more hours of direct sunlight each day.”

Lawns planted with Zeon Zoysia should be mown every 1-2 weeks with a reel mower set at three-quarters of an inch, he notes. “It’s more disease and insect-resistant than other varieties.
