Unique architectural design is complemented by quality finishes in this new home designed and built by Home-works Construction on the site of the owner’s previous home in Wailupe Circle. The rebuild more than doubles the size of the previous home occupied by the three-generation family.

The original home was constructed in 1951 in the East Oahu neighborhood, developed on a peninsula created in 1948 over the remains of a Hawaiian fishpond. The approximately 120-home community, accessed from Kalanianaole Highway, continues to be one of Oahu’s most desirable neighborhoods with lots ranging from 11,000 to 18,000 square feet. Wailupe homes, many in various stages of renovation or already rebuilt, have recently sold at price points upward of $2 million.

The home that previously occupied the 12,003-square-foot lot was a single-story 2,500-square-foot structure. A swimming pool, added to the property in 1955, was retained and has been resurfaced.

Balance, simplicity and functionality characterize the architectural style of the new residence. White board and batten siding is complemented by a green standing seam metal roof. Adjacent to the main entrance at the front of the house is a concrete veranda with a custom-designed railing that provides a unique decorative feature. Poured concrete driveways and walkways were designed to incorporate space for landscaping.

The new family residence consists of a main house of 4,146 square feet and an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) with 1,024 square feet, plus a two-car garage for the main house and a one-car garage for the ADU.

The two-story home includes five bedrooms — three on the second floor, the master on the first floor and one in the ADU — four full baths and one half-bath.

“The ground floor was designed with an open floor plan with a family room and kitchen overlooking the swimming pool area,” says Sylvio Boucher, Homeworks president and chief of field operations. “Roofed outdoor lanais that open to the pool deck provide additional space for dining and entertaining. Both the main residence and the ADU have custom kitchens with state-of-the-art appliances and convenient work and storage areas.

“Our design team and builders worked closely with the owner to produce a spacious, functional multigenerational home. The interior layout has ample space for cross ventilation and every room has its own natural lighting. Our mutual goal was to provide convenience and comfort for every family member.”
