PART ONE
A new custom home designed and built by Homeworks Construction is underway on the site of the owner’s previous home in Wailupe Circle. The original home was constructed in 1951 in the East Oahu neighborhood, developed on a peninsula created in 1948 over the remains of a Hawaiian fishpond. The approximately 120-home community, accessed from Kalanianaole Highway, continues to be one of Oahu’s most desirable neighborhoods with lots ranging from 11,000 to 18,000 square feet. Wailupe homes, many in various stages of renovation or already rebuilt, have recently sold at price points upward of $2 million.
The Homeworks project has progressed from site clearing and foundation to roofing in just three months. According to Homeworks president and chief of field operations, Sylvio Boucher, who handled demolition of the original home, completion is projected for November.
The home that previously occupied the 12,003-square foot lot was a single-story 2,500-square-foot structure. A swimming pool, added to the property in 1955, was retained and is being completely refurbished.
The new family residence will consist of a main house with 4,146 square feet and an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) with 1,024 square feet plus a two-car garage for the main house and a one-car garage for the ADU.
The two-story home includes five bedrooms — three on the second floor, the master on the first floor, and one in the ADU — four full baths and one half-bath.
The ground floor has been designed with an open floor plan with a family room and large custom kitchen overlooking the swimming pool area. A covered outdoor lanai surrounds the pool.
“Our design team and builders have worked closely with the owner to create a spacious, functional multigenerational home … it maximizes use of the property and is consistent with the quality of the Wailupe neighborhood,” Boucher says.
Established over two decades ago as a design-build firm, Homeworks provides “all design and construction services under one roof,” the company slogan, and has completed approximately 1,000 new custom homes and remodels on Oahu over the years.
Homeworks was named one of Hawaii’s best construction companies in Honolulu Star-Advertiser‘s 2020 “Hawaii’s Best” awards program and “Builder of the Year” by the Building Industry Association of Hawaii (BIA). The company has won multiple awards for building and remodeling in the Building Industry Design & Construction Awards competition. The National Association of Home Builders has designated the company a “Built Green Professional” and “Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist.”
Homeworks Construction president and chief administrative officer Marshall Hickox, past president of the BIA, noted that a free private consultation can be arranged at the company offices in the Homeworks Building at 2111 S. Beretania St., as well as at the job site. To make an appointment or for more information, call 808-955– 2777 or go to the website homeworkshawaii.com.
