A new custom home, designed and built by Homeworks Construction, was recently completed on a Kaneohe hillside.
The 10,000-square-foot lot is one of three subdivided by the owner from a total 3.4-acre property. The new home is being built for a family member; the owner occupies an existing house on another lot.
“A number of large trees and extensive root networks were removed from the site intended for the new home. The construction of the post and pier foundation required that the earth be free of roots,” says Sylvio Boucher, Home-works president and chief of field operations. “As soon as the ground was cleared, we were able to start laying out and positioning the house to maximize the Kualoa mountain view. Over 20 large pillars for support and a 50-foot long retaining wall to divert the rain water were necessary for a safe foundation. Due to the 30-degree slope of the hill, much of this work was done by hand, which was a challenge … and this included almost 300 feet of trenching from the street to the house to install the utilities.”
To preserve the integrity of the forested landscape and ensure unobstructed views from the home, laying all utilities underground was a priority, including electric wiring, telephone, and cable.
This “house in the treetops” captures a panoramic view of the Windward coast, the ocean and mountains. The single level home’s 1,078-square-foot interior is augmented by a 400-square foot lanai and 75 square feet of stairs; it includes two bedrooms, two full baths, and a custom kitchen which opens to the expansive main living area. There are views of the forest, ocean, or mountains from every room in the house.
