If getting vinyl siding and windows are on your to-do list, ask the experts at Tropical how to be akamai when purchasing. Tropical is the oldest and first contractor in Hawaii to install vinyl siding and windows. Tropical was also the first to manufacture vinyl window products in the state. With 60 years of experience, Tropical is the place to go for solid information on vinyl products.
Tropical president/contractor/owner Matt explains why it’s smart to purchase the company’s vinyl products.
WHAT SHOULD VINYL SIDING AND WINDOWS REALLY COST?
“Well, most Hawaii homeowners, especially kupuna, have no idea of the cost. For example, I recently went to a home in Mililani to quote an elderly couple for vinyl windows. The day before, a salesman from another company was there for a bid. He quoted them $64,000 and told them he was going to give them 50% off if they bought today. The couple almost bought thinking this sounded reasonable, but did not because I was coming the next day.
Luckily, we at Tropical came highly recommended from a friend. Our final price was $24,500. So, be careful of the big discount and high-pressure salesman. Remember, if it’s too good to be true, it is.”
ARE ALL VINYL PRODUCTS GOOD QUALITY?
“No, of course not. Most homeowners get bids and the salesmen come and convince them their vinyl products are the best. There are over a dozen different grades of vinyl siding and windows. Beware because almost anything is an upgrade from a peeling, painted house, or aluminum jalousies. Be akamai and look at different brands. Even a nonprofessional can tell the difference between a good and a cheap vinyl product. Most times, the junk product will cost as much if not more than the best product if you aren’t careful. If you have questions, come to my showroom at 1351 S. Beretania St. There, you can see and touch the difference.”
ARE ALL INSTALLATION TECHNIQUES STANDARD?
“No. There are many different techniques for vinyl siding and windows. I have been in the vinyl siding and window business in Hawaii for over 46 years, and during that time I have seen over 100 mainland companies come and go. They all tried to use mainland installation techniques. They all had good mainland sales pitches. They all failed and went out of business. Then, as we say, “you’re left holding the bag.”
