A new custom home in lower Palolo designed and built by Homeworks Construction was completed as scheduled and in time for the owners to move in for the holidays.

Demolition of the original 1,700-square-foot home by Homeworks and site clearing started in April on the 4,500-square-foot lot. The next step, which was essential to the stability of the structure, was replacement of clay soil with base course aggregate. While the original house was built with a post and pier foundation, a concrete slab was poured for the new structure.

During the preliminary stages of construction, the owners continued to meet with the Homeworks design team and selections specialists to finalize both interior and exterior details and finishes.

The new two-story home is 2,730 square feet under roof, including a covered lanai and two-car garage. The exterior finish is unique for the area with stucco on the first story and smart panel lap siding on the upper level. The open concept family-centric home has four bedrooms, three full baths, a spacious main living room with 9-foot ceilings, and a 240-square-foot play area that can be divided to create a study room separated by bifold doors. The large kitchen and dining area, a total of 400 square feet, opens up to the 180-square-foot lanai and backyard, providing additional space for dining and entertaining.

“Creating a family home is very much a collaboration process involving the owner, the designer and the builder, all working together toward a mutual goal … a unique new home that will serve the family’s needs for generations and represent a solid investment in their future,” says Marshall Hickox, Homeworks president and chief administrative officer.

He notes that the company has designed and built numerous custom homes throughout the Palolo Valley neighborhoods over the years.

“Palolo families, often second or third generation owners, tend to rebuild on the site or do major remodeling once their existing home no longer serves their needs rather than buy or build a home in another location. Palolo is a very convenient family-oriented neighborhood.”

Established over two decades ago as a design-build firm, Homeworks provides “all design and construction services under one roof,” the company slogan. With approximately 1,000 new custom homes and remodels completed throughout Oahu over the years, Homeworks is known for its experience and proficiency in virtually every type of residential construction, from new custom rebuilds in urban neighborhoods to oceanside residences and vintage remodels. Additions, multi-generational homes and accessory dwelling units also are specialties.
