Another New ‘Rebuild’ In Kaimuki
A custom home built by Homeworks Construction is underway on a 4,000-square-foot lot in lower Kaimuki. It replaces the client’s previous home, demolished by Homeworks in June when the lot was cleared and foundation work started (see inset photo). Framing progressed through August, moving toward projected completion by the end of October. A rendering shows the completed structure from the same perspective as the photo of the framing — literally the “bones of the house.”
Over the past year, Homeworks has completed a half dozen new homes, additions and major remodels in Kaimuki.
Homeworks Construction president and chief administrative officer Marshall Hickox said the company has been able to stay on schedule with projects while observing pandemic protocols, for which he gives credit to the company’s builders, project managers and field employees, as well as its suppliers.
Hickox added that much of the work done on a new custom home, including rebuilds, is carried on behind the scenes.
“Before any construction activity takes place on the site, we have already surveyed the property, had the soil tested, pulled permits, and plans have been drawn up. Interior and exterior details are being finalized and everything is carefully specified,” he explained.
“The house that previously occupied the site was a small, single-wall structure. The new two-story home will be cooler and more energy-efficient, meeting all of today’s stricter codes, and more quiet with its dual-glazed windows, which also are safer in compliance with the hurricane protection codes requiring installation of hurricane strapping and hardware. With double the space of their previous home, the clients planned for aging in place by locating the master bedroom downstairs and designing a barrier-free bathroom. Bedrooms and a sitting room upstairs provide additional personal space.”
Established over two decades ago as a design-build firm, Homeworks provides “all design and construction services under one roof,” the company slogan. With approximately 1,000 new custom homes and remodels completed throughout Oahu over the years, Homeworks is known for its experience and proficiency in virtually every type of residential construction, from new custom rebuilds in urban neighborhoods to oceanside residences, and vintage remodels. Additions, multi generational homes and accessory dwelling units also are specialties.
Homeworks Construction has been chosen as one of Hawaii’s “Best Construction Companies” in the annual Honolulu Star-Advertiser “Hawaii’s Best” awards program for three consecutive years. The company was named “Builder of the Year” by the Building Industry Association of Hawaii and received multiple awards in the BIA’s annual design and construction awards programs. The National Association of Home Builders has designated the company a “Built Green Professional” and “Aging in Place Specialist.”
