As technology advances and expands, so do the options for better building materials of all kinds — including flooring.

The past few years have seen the rise in popularity of composite wood flooring. Also known as engineered flooring, these amaz ing planks are constructed to provide better stability and resistance to variations in temperature and moisture.

And H & C Flooring and Stone has just received a shipment of one of the newest and most exciting types of engineered flooring on the market — gorgeous, durable Stone Plastic Composite (SPC).

“It’s water-resistant and easier to maintain compared to solid wood engineered flooring. It’s more durable and good for easy maintenance,” said Wen Cao, co-owner of H & C Flooring. “Installation is simple, because it’s a click-in system.”

Thanks to the simple locking “floating floor” system, many homeowners choose to tackle installation themselves. Planks are water-resistant and ideal for humid environments. They’re also easy to replace.

Made with a tough but resilient core layer of stone, SPC is an upgraded version of engineered vinyl flooring, appropriate for both residential and commercial use, including restaurants and retail establishments. Extremely dense, it’s more impact-resistant than WPC and other engineered flooring. It’s also less susceptible to expansion during extreme temperature changes.

“We have four new colors of SPC vinyl planks: antique white oak, ivory walnut, golden white walnut and light wheat oak,” Cao said.

“They’re tough and beautiful, and great for (heavy-traffic) spaces, but more affordable than wood or tile.”

Each SPC plank is 9 inches wide and 4 feet long, and beautifully mimics the hard-wood color for which it is named — but it’s exponentially more durable.

“SPC planks can be installed over most subflooring,” explained Cao. “They’re stronger than WPC planks, with fewer deformations.”

With more than 1,000 square feet of showroom space, H & C has plenty of room for big display boards that help clients select flooring for their homes. The company carries 25 different colors of vinyl flooring, including four of solid wood (maple, Asian teak and two different colors of acacia).

H & C also displays more than 50 different types of ceramic and porcelain tile for its partner companies, as well as limestone flagstone for exteriors, gardens and pool decks.

The company also carries six different types of standard-sized glass shower sliding doors — three of stainless steel chrome, and three of brushed aluminum finish — in 3/8-inch water-repellent glass.

“All our tile is porcelain, and all our vinyls have rigid cores,” said Cao. “We have flooring for every room in the house, and all the accessories — moldings, baseboards, everything.”
