Homeworks Construction will offer a free seminar on remodeling to expand space in an existing home, as well as designing and building new custom homes and Accessory Dwelling Units, on Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the company showroom.
“There are often several ways that interior space can be expanded, provided the home is structurally sound,” said Homeworks Construction president and chief administrative officer Marshall Hickox. “We’ve recently completed renovations and additions at a vintage home in lower Maunalani where we opened up the front of the house to add a new master bedroom-bath suite and an outdoor deck. The family now has 450 square feet of additional space, bringing the useable living area up to 1,400 square feet.
What was previously a two-bedroom home has been transformed into a multi-generational household.”
The home, built in 1927, is located on a 4,650-square-foot lot above a lava rock wall that extends uphill along the narrow road, making the renovations to both the home and the foundation a challenging project. A new 12-foot sliding door in the living room maximizes the view from the house and opens to the deck which overlooks the ocean and the valley. The new covered deck has convenient access to main interior living areas and remodeled kitchen, making it an appealing option for outdoor dining. The new kitchen and bath were designed by Homeworks award-winning designer Sean Bradshaw (see rendering).
