One of the most challenging and frustrating things about shopping for new fl ooring is trying to imagine the look of a room based on a tiny sample of vinyl.

Yet most big home improvement stores only provide small samples of their vinyl stock. Larger samples are sometimes available — for purchase.

If you’re looking for a company that can help you make a well-informed decision about your new floor, visit H&C Flooring and Stone on Dillingham Avenue. With more than a thousand feet of space, H&C opened March 1 with an exciting selection of quality merchandise, including vinyl and wood flooring, that will make any home renovator’s heart beat a little faster.

“We offer 25 different shades of vinyl, and we display 40 different types of porcelain tile for our partner companies,” said Wen Cao, partner and co-owner of the nascent company. “We have four different colors of solid wood flooring.”

For homeowners who need better visuals as they try to imagine their new floors, H&C provides display boards, about 3-by-7-feet long, to show the vinyl and wood flooring samples. There’s simply no comparison to the inadequate samples from big home improvement stores.

“You can see the whole effect and layout, especially when the boards are placed against a wall,” explained Cao.

All of the vinyl flooring sold by H&C is rigid core commercial-grade, Cao added. Rigid core flooring is known for its toughness.

“It’s a lot more scratch-resistant compared to solid wood flooring. And our vinyl flooring product doesn’t have grooved edges, which means the connection doesn’t trap dirt,” he continued.

The store carries flagstone for exteriors, in gardens and around swimming pools, as well as a half-dozen different styles of shower doors.

“All our shower door glass is three-eighths-inch thickness, and it comes with water-repellant technology, so there are fewer water marks left on the glass,” Cao said.

Partnering with his father, a licensed contractor who has more than 26 years in the construction business, Cao has made sure to outfit his showroom with everything you might need for your flooring project.

“We have styles for any room in the house — bathrooms, kitchen, living room, bedrooms — and we have all the accessories — moldings, baseboards, transition pieces, everything — in stock,” he said.

No need to worry about making hardware runs halfway through a project, because this upstart company will do whatever it can to make your job easier.

H&C Flooring and Stone is open Monday-Saturday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
