Homeworks Construction was the contractor of choice for major renovations and expansion of a vintage home in lower Maunalani. Built in 1927, the home includes many design features that contribute to its charm and will be preserved.

The single story structure, with 957 interior square feet, includes a main living area, dining room, two bedrooms, one bath, and a kitchen.

With the addition of a master bedroom and bath suite and deck the home will be expanded to a total of approximately 1,600 square feet.

Homeworks project coordinator Jon Zimmerman noted that the entire design-build team – architect, builders, selections specialist, and kitchen and bath designer – are working closely with the owners to create a multi-generational home for the family.

Interior remodeling will include an all-new kitchen and bath designed by Homeworks award-winning kitchen and bath specialist Sean Bradshaw. The decks added to the front of the house will look out over the neighborhood to the ocean and Diamond Head.

An ADA compliant bathroom is planned for the future. In addition to a barrier-free shower in the new master suite, extra blocking in the walls for future grab bars around the shower and toilets are also being installed.

“It was a challenge to design a new kitchen that integrated the original charm of the house… for example, preserving the coffered ceiling and the board and batten interior wall details,” Bradshaw noted. (See kitchen concept rendering.)
