More than two decades of quality homebuilding in Hawaii has garnered an array of awards for Homeworks Construction — BIA Remodeler of the Year, a Honolulu Star-Advertiser “Hawaii’s Best” award, ranking among the nation’s Top 500 Residential Remodelers by Qualifi ed Remodeler magazine, and, most recently, Builder of the Year by the Building Industry Association of Hawaii.

Partners Jim Byxbee and Marshall Hickox (president and CEO, and president and chief administrative officer, respectively) alongside Sylvio Boucher who is president and chief of operations, have set high standards for the company. They work as a team with their designers and builders, guiding each project, whether large or small, budget or luxury, to a successful conclusion — and success is measured by client satisfaction.

“Client referrals have continued to be our best source of new business,” Byxbee said. “Also, people see our project signs in neighborhoods throughout Oahu and stop by to watch the progress of a new home — often from demolition to final finishes.”

“All design and construction services under one roof” is more than just the company slogan, Byxbee noted. “As a design-build firm, we follow through on our projects from planning and permitting to final finishes.

“As the project progresses, the client actually becomes part of the team. This process has worked well for us through more than 1,000 new homes and remodels in virtually every Oahu neighborhood.”

Hickox, recently installed as 2019 president of the Building Industry Association of Hawaii, an affiliate of the National Association of Home Builders, has been commended by the organization for his service as an industry advocate over the years. At the ceremony, he accepted the “Builder of the Year” award in behalf of Homeworks Construction. It was noted that, “The company and Mr. Hickox’s efforts to advance industry goals and their dogged pursuit of excellence garnered them the top honor.”

“Over the last 20 years we have seen the prices to build or modernize a home grow beyond the reach of many of our residents — I needed to get involved,” Hickox said. “Our industry leaders need to continue working with the City Council and Legislature to enact common sense solutions that contribute to more affordable housing at all price points. Unnecessary ordinances or burdensome policy that contribute to rising home costs are what we are fighting against.” Hickox provides a BIA President’s Report on the Rick Hamada Show on KHVH-AM 830 Mondays from 6:40 to 7 a.m.

“My report includes current industry news including updates on the permit process, Accessory Dwelling Units, monster homes, and more — all in the interest of keeping the public informed,” Hickox said.
