Ever since Hawaii’s leading provider of solar and sustainable home technology began offering the Tesla Power-wall, Aloha State residents have been stopping by RevoluSun Smart Home’s Ward Avenue Innovation Center to learn more.
The Powerwall home battery incorporates Tesla’s proven automotive battery technology to power the home safely and economically. It maximizes the usefulness of solar panels by storing the power generated from the sun so that you can use it whenever it’s needed and also fortify your home against power outages by providing a backup electricity supply.
The Powerwall 2 is now available and has twice the energy and storage — 13.5 kWh of energy and 5 kWh of continuous power. The new battery comes also with a design update: Powerwall 2 is more rectangular and flatter than the previous generation. It weighs 269 pounds and is 6.1 inches deep.
Here are Powerwall 2’s benefits:
•It stores electricity generated by solar panels during the day and makes it available to your home in the evening. This bridges the gap between peak solar production (day) and peak demand (evening), allowing you to use your electrons when you need them.
• Powerwall 2 provides 13.5 kWh of usable energy storage.
• Multiple Powerwalls may be installed together as needed for a home’s energy needs.
• Through Hawaiian Electric’s Self Supply program, your home is still connected to the utility grid for periods of high demand.
• In the event of a utility outage, Powerwall will supply electricity to the home, maintaining power to the important appliances in your home. When installed along with solar panels, Powerwall will recharge during the day while your home uses solar-generated electricity.
• Automated, compact and simple to install, Power-wall provides and the security of an emergency backup.
