With a keen focus on member needs, HawaiiUSA is determined to help its members through every life event, no matter how big or small. For many members, some of life’s biggest moments relate to home ownership.

“For most people, the biggest investment a person will make in their lifetime is the purchase of a home,” said Scott Kaulukukui, senior vice president and director of marketing and community outreach at HawaiiUSA. “For many, Hawaii’s high home prices make an already big investment even bigger. This presents a real challenge for many young adults.”

According to the Building Industry Association of Hawaii (BIA-Hawaii), the median home price in Hawaii has soared to $730,000. Experts forecast it will hit the $1 million mark in a few years. BIA-Hawaii has advocated that an increase in the supply of housing at all price points is desperately needed.

HawaiiUSA has been a member of BIA-Hawaii since 2011 and has taken advantage of its learning opportunities in an effort to help members achieve their home buying dreams. Recently, six HawaiiUSA representatives attended BIA-Hawaii’s Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) seminar to learn more about the City’s new ordinance that allows homeowners to build small and affordable dwellings (400 to 800 sq. ft.).

To share this knowledge, HawaiiUSA sponsors Atlas Construction’s monthly ADU Seminar, which is held in the credit union’s Community Rooms located at 1259 Aala St. Besides covering information specific to ADU construction, attendees are educated on general homebuilding topics and receive tips and advice on tackling their pending projects. HawaiiUSA representatives are on hand to offer pertinent information about funding a renovation, rebuild or ADU.

Visit Atlas Construction’s website for seminar dates or stop by the HawaiiUSA booth at the BIA Home Building and Remodeling Show, Jan. 22-24.
