HK Construction Signature Kitchen & Bath Division Specialist, Randy Trager would like to address frequently asked questions regarding kitchen and bath remodeling. Trager has several years of experience designing quality Honolulu kitchens with designer brands such as SubZero, Viking, Thermador, Monogram, Wolf and Miele appliances. Here are some inside insights from Trager:

Q: How do the cooking appliances work into the design process?

RT: The property tends to drive this question; gas or electric. We install a number of LP (liquid propane) systems for electric only properties, as the client really wants to cook with gas. Each of the designer brands are available either NG (natural gas) or LP. Next is to identify if they would like ‘wall ovens’ or not. If the client wants a range/oven unit, then they can choose from an all gas unit or a dual fuel unit — gas burners with electric oven below. If the client desires electric cooking, then they can look at the new induction style cook tops and wall mounted ovens and microwaves.

Q: Is there a common challenge designing kitchens with appliances like these?

RT: A couple are fairly common. One is the use of an exhaust hood above the cooking surface. The other is determining the size and shape of an island.

Q: How does being a part of HK Signature Kitchens and Baths help the client in all of this?
