Are you suffering from kitchen congestion? A tight kitchen can leave you feeling cramped, confined and frustrated. In order to beat the heat in your cooped-up kitchen, you need some breathing room.
Oftentimes, relief can be found by reevaluating the space around your kitchen. Pantries, laundry rooms and garages are great for storage, but can also be modified to both maximize storage and add some much needed space.
For this Mililani kitchen, every problem seemed to revolve around the lack of elbow room and a proper work area for a very talented home baker. With that in mind, the design team at Designer Kitchens & Baths got busy planning, and took advantage of several space-stealing areas.
Changing the location of the front door to the side of the house, the layout now became an elongated rectangle, making the orientation of the new kitchen more easily defined. Addition of a wet bar extends the kitchen into an informal gathering space. The bonus was an additional closet in the previous front entry, as well as being able to capitalize on the tradewinds’ natural flow through the kitchen.
The refrigerator and freezer were relocated into the old pantry and became a centralized work zone accessible from all areas of the kitchen. A new walk-in pantry was conceived by reconfiguring the tightest end of the existing kitchen, providing all the baking storage the homeowner could use. Another bonus: Movable base cabinets on rubber casters gave the homeowner the flexibility to wheel the heavy-duty mixer in and out of the pantry as needed.
Every open floor plan needs a home base, so the design team created the oversized, multi-purpose island to help define specific work areas, as well as give this busy family a casual, everyday landing for food prep, cooking, eating and family gatherings. Designer Kitchens & Baths would be excited to help you find some hidden spaces in your home to expand your kitchen and help clear up that congestion.
