One of the most important decisions you will make regarding your home construction project is selecting the right builder. Whether it’s a simple renovation, remodel or new build, there are dozens of home builders to choose from in Hawaii. Fortunately, one locally owned company stands out from the crowd for its commitment to educating homeowners about the basics of the design+build process, as well as being a trailblazer in its industry.

First in education

With nearly 25 years of helping hundreds of Hawaii families design and build their dream homes, Graham Builders has the experience and knowledge to guide homeowners through the process of building their “Home for Life,” from start to completion. For many of Graham Builders’ clients, their journey begins when they attend one of the company’s seminars.

For more than two decades, Graham Builders has dedicated itself to educating and informing the public through its free “Building Your Home for Life” monthly seminars. In fact, the company was first in the state to offer free seminars related to the design+build approach to building new homes. More than 5,000 homeowners have attended the informational workshops that provide homeowners with detailed information on where to start, how to select a builder, financing and topics such as multigenerational homes, universal and aging-in-place design, as well as sustainable building.

In March 2014, Graham Builders expanded on its role of educating the public on home construction even further, with the launch of its “Building Your Home for Life” radio show with Mike Buck. The weekly, hour-long show airs every Saturday from 3 to 4 p.m. on AM 690 and provides a wealth of information about the home building and renovating process.

Multigenerational-home specialists

From its early years, Graham Builders recognized Hawaii’s unique culture and how it embraces ohana. This led the company to be among the first to specialize in multigenerational homes for families all over Oahu. Graham Builders also was the first home construction company in the state to have a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) on staff. Today, Graham Builders has four Certified Aging-in-Place Specialists, to help families make necessary changes to provide for the safety and mobility of elderly family members.

“Whether it’s modifying their current home or building a new one, our staff works closely with each family member to ensure that everyone is happy with the layout and features of the home,” said Evan Fujimoto, president of Graham Builders. “When designing multigenerational homes, we have to take into consideration each family member’s personal needs by adding common, as well as segregated, living areas.”

Treats you like family

At Graham Builders, each project is assigned a team consisting of an architectural designer, project manager and project coordinator. Each team member works closely with the family from start to finish, ensuring the project is progressing in a timely manner and that all questions are answered to their satisfaction.

“Our project manager, Chad Okuhara, has been awesome to work with,” said Christin Sumida of Aiea. “He is always checking in on us. For my mother who watches my son during the day, having Chad literally stop by the house to see if she has any questions or concerns at least twice a week is very comforting. My family constantly receives updates on the build and are notified of any changes within a timely manner.”
