Since 1990 Graham Builders has guided hundreds of homeowners through the process of designing, building and renovating homes that will last them a lifetime. As Hawaii’s leading design+build firm, Graham Builders’ staff of dedicated architectural designers work diligently to create a family’s dream home, while using only the most skilled and experienced local trade partners. Many of Graham Builders’ staff, including President Evan Fujimoto, has more than 20 years of residential construction experience.

Recognizing needs and trends

Graham Builders was among the first to recognize Hawaii’s unique culture of embracing ohana which often-times results in multiple generations of families living together under one roof. The company has since been a trailblazer in its industry by leading the effort to design and build multi-generational homes.

As Hawaii’s population continues to age, Graham Builders also recognized the importance for home builders to understand what modifications are needed to help homeowners stay in their homes as they get older. Many of Hawaii’s homes are more than 50 years old and were not built to handle an aging population. In fact, Graham Builders was the first to have a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS), a certification program administered by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), on staff. Today, Graham Builders is proud to have three Certified Aging-in-Place Specialists to help families make necessary changes for the mobility and safety of elderly residing in their homes.

With the rising awareness and interest in sustainable building, Graham Builders also has three staffers who earned their Certified Green Professional designation from NAHB, allowing them to better help clients incorporate green-building principles into their homes to increase their energy savings as well as the value of their homes.

“We are pleased that so many of Hawaii’s homeowners have trusted us with their home construction project over the past 23 years,” said Fujimoto. “We also take pride in being a builders’ builder, as we’ve designed and built personal residences for other local builders and architects who work in non-residential sectors of our industry.”

Educating the public

For more than two decades, Graham Builders has dedicated substantial resources to educating and informing the public through its free “Building Your Home for Life” monthly seminars. The company was the first in the state to offer free seminars, which has since been attended by more than 5,000 homeowners. The seminar provides homeowners with detailed information on where to start, how to select a builder, financing, and topics such as multigeneration homes, universal and aging-in-place design, as well as sustainable building.

Giving back to the community

In 2011, Graham Builders was honored by the State of Hawaii as one of Hawaii’s Outstanding Advocates for Youth for its continued support of Hawaii Children’s Cancer Foundation (HCCF). Since 2000, Graham Builders has organized and hosted an annual holiday party for the children and families of HCCF. In an effort to expand its support of HCCF, Graham Builders began requesting a donation to the local charity at all its monthly seminars in 2007, and matches those contributions. Through this initiative, Graham Builders has collected more than $14,000 for HCCF.
