Merry Christmas! Since it’s that time of year again, Walker-Moody Construction and SealMaster Hawaii want to send you greetings and a reminder for this winter season. Don’t leave your asphalt untreated or those cracks or potholes unfixed. It has been a really wet winter this year so far and this water can cause a lot of damage. Take care of your driveway and protect your investment.
This also will give Santa a nice parking spot.
The heart of an effective pavement maintenance program includes periodic sealcoating with an asphalt-based emulsion pavement sealer. Left untreated, asphalt pavement will deteriorate rapidly. It is made up of asphalt, binder and rock. Almost immediately after paving, the asphalt binder combines with oxygen and becomes brittle or oxidized, leading to cracking and weathering soon after installation. Moisture penetrates the asphalt causing further damage and deterioration to the pavement.
Sealcoating protects against oxidation. An unsealed pavement allows water to penetrate into and through the pavement structure leading to base erosion, and ultimately pavement failure. Sealcoating provides a protective barrier to stop water penetration.
If left unsealed, oil and gasoline will soften and deteriorate the exposed asphalt binder. Sealcoating provides a protective barrier that resists attack from oil and gasoline.
