With their son returning home from a tour in Iraq and frequent visits from two daughters and their families from the Mainland, a Waipahu couple knew it was time to expand their single level, three-bedroom home.

They decided to attend a Graham Builders’ seminar after visiting the homebuilder’s booth at the BIA Home Building and Remodeling Show.

“Graham Builders’ seminar was very informative, and didn’t leave anything out,” said the homeowners. “Following our initial meeting with the team, we decided to go with Graham Builders and forego meeting with other construction companies.”

“The homeowners had a modest budget, but had great ideas of how they wanted to expand their home in order to make room for everyone in the family,” said Evan Fujimoto, Graham Builders president. “Throughout the design process, we worked diligently to stay within the budget to build an upper level to the existing home that included three bedrooms, one bathroom and a living space for the couple’s son, his wife and their daughter.”

During this time, Graham Builders also renovated the kitchen, which included the addition of an island and new cabinets, enclosed the laundry room, and added a new patio. The original flooring in the downstairs living room was also changed to Metroflor Hybrid — a new flooring product that combines a quieter, softer resilient flooring top layer to a hardboard T&G plank. This product feels warm and comfortable under foot and eliminates the hard knocking sound associated with typical laminate floors.

“Noise pollution from the freeway posed another challenge,” said Keith Kilburn, Graham Builders design department manager. “To remedy this, we minimized the windows on the back of the house to reduce the traffic noise. In addition to more living space and the new kitchen, the home is substantially quieter than before.”

“We are very pleased with the work Graham Builders did, and would definitely recommend them to our friends and family,” said the Waipahu homeowners. “Everyone at Graham Builders is extremely knowledgeable, easy to get along with, and always had our paperwork completed and done on time. Not only does our son and his family have a space of their own now, but when our two daughters and their families visit, our entire family can stay under one roof comfortably.”
